Growing with grief

IMG_7291.HEIC

I chose this project at quite a hard moment in my life. I had just recently lost my nan but I decided that I wanted to carry on with this topic as it is so important. I wanted to try and create a piece that would show my grief in a powerful. My first idea was to create a glass cyanotype of my images and display them around a lightbulb. However, after experimenting with cyanotype on glass I realised that this would not be possible. I brainstormed lots of ideas but I chose to create a lampshade, I thought that this would work well because it could illuminate how grief feels. Also, I got to experiment with film photography and the dark room.

The idea I had for the photo frames is that she carries her grief with her always, sometimes she knows this and sometimes she doesn't. The presence of grief is always there we just learn to grow with it, this is why I included the flowers.

This is the negative that I made when I was trying to do the cyanotype.

This is the finished lampshade that I made during my A level exam. I used transparent paper and card to make the images and frames.Additionally, I used some of my nans wool to tie around the lampshade to add a more personal touch to it.
